The motor schooner Misty Isles wii be offering voyages of exploration into the surrounding waters and during the orientation given at the beginning of each workshop, we will outline the sailing events available that week. Departing from the Hollyhock beach, visit Mitlenatch Island with our naturalist guides and learn about this important seabird breeding rookery with it's field of wildflowers, seals and sealions. Or voyage into Desolation Sound, where the mountains soar up from the sea and the scenery is spectacular.
Launched in 1992, Misty Isles has her heritage in the classic beauty of a gaff rigged schooner and the functional seaworthiness of a westcoast troller. With a 43 foot (13m) length on deck and of very heavy construction, Misty Isles provides safe and comfortable transportation and if there is enough wind, we encourage guests to get hands-on experience in sailing her. Misty Isles is Canada Marine Safety inspected and certified to carry 12 passengers and 2 crew.
Sailors should come prepared to go to sea, even if it is a warm day bring along a long sleeve top and pants, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. Because we voyage where there are no docks and have to do beach landings, wear shoes that can get wet ("Water Shoes" are great, tevas are fine but no thong type sandals please).
No previous experience is necessary for our cruising programs. You can reserve your spot for a voyage by either contacting Misty Isles Adventures directly or by signing up at the Hollyhock Store when you arrive on Cortes.
