Hollyhock; 2010 Season > Kayaking Programs
Misty Isles Adventures provides sea kayak rentals, instruction and guided trips departing from Hollyhock all summer!
During the orientation given at the beginning of each workshop, we will outline the kayaking and sailing events that are being offered for that week. The kayaking events might include short 3 hour guided paddles to explore the low tide in the afternoon or to watch the stars come out.
One of our favourite paddles is the bioluminescence paddle. In late summer, the plankton which creates bioluminescence proliferates, lighting up our paddle strokes with fairy dust sparkling through the water!
Longer, full afternoon events are also scheduled which not only include a guided paddle but also more formal instruction in introductory paddling skills and safety. No previous experience is necessary for our guided programs. You can reserve your spot for a guided paddle by either contacting Misty Isles Adventures directly or by signing up at the Hollyhock Store when you arrive on Cortes.

Kayak rentals are also available for those people who already have sea kayaking skills and experience. Your safety is our main concern and we will not rent kayaks to people who do not have the necassary safety skills. If you have not taken an introductory kayaking class before, then you must arrange to have one with us ahead of time or take an equivalent course prior to coming to Cortes. Additionally,at least one member of a rental party must be capable of performing group and self rescues. All overnight and multiday renters must have experience in rescue techniques and basic navigation.
All kayak rentals must be done through Misty isles Adventures and to ensure that rental kayaks are available for you, please contact us well in advance of your stay at Hollyhock so that we can reserve your boats.

| Kayakers should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Shorts or pants that can be rolled up are a good idea as you will get wet up to the knees. Footwear must be sturdy and able to get wet. Barefeet and thong type sandles are dangerous on shell covered, rugged shores. Old running shoes or "Water Shoes" are ideal. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a sweater or light jacket and long slip on pants. LIABILITY WAIVER: All participants in sailing trips, guided kayaking trips or kayak rentals will be required to sign a waiver of liability. Those participants under 19 years of age will require a signature from a parent or guardian.
